Flying from the UK or Driving?

We’ve done both! And our decision was based on the length of time we had available for our holiday. From Dover it is about 700 miles through some of Europe’s best countryside, you can easily make the journey into a great extension of you holiday.

Flying has become considerably easier with many regional airports flying to Salzburg, Munich or Innsbruck. All are within 100 miles of Mountains View with also good rail connections to Zell am See and Mittersill.

We have driven a few times and also flown from London Gatwick by British Airways and Exeter by Fly Be.

Flying is the best option if you only have 7 days to enjoy your holiday in Austria. We would recommend using a regional airport as it’s considerably quicker, cheaper and less hassle than the major airports. The flight to Salzburg takes approximately 90 minutes (they say 2 hours). The scenery coming into Salzburg is fantastic as you can see the snow topped mountains in the distance. We landed and within 10 minutes we were through immigration, customs and had our luggage (it’s a nice small airport!) We had already booked a hire care www.travelsupermarket.com which compares prices and gave us the best value. Interestingly the company that we rented the car from was a name that we didn't recognise but we picked up the car from SIXT car rental. Please ask for winter tyres during the winter months as they are not standard and are very useful in colder temperatures.

The drive from Salzburg to Mountains View took about 90 minutes and we drove through Kitzbuhel. Austria is a very relaxed country to drive in; the drivers are courteous and keep to the speed limits. We will send you photo directions on booking to help you find your way to the Chalet.

Driving is a great way to extend your holiday and see more of Europe. There are many routes from Calais to Mountains View, we have taken 2 different routes which was mainly due to the number of stop over’s we wanted on the way.

Home – Ghent – Luxembourg – Munich – Mountains View (3 nights)
Home – Baden Baden – Mountains View (1 night) *

*We usually do this in reverse on the way home, Baden Baden is a lovely German Spa town which we tend to have lunch and visit the spa for a couple of hours before continuing our journey for a stop over in France.
